I have had to make numerous lifestyle changes. Some of it has been easy and some of it not so easy. I prefer the term lifestyle changes to diet because after all the changes I am making now will remain with me for the rest of my life.
Meats - My body naturally began rejecting meats for the most part when I began my journey into menopause. I still eat chicken but not very often. I no longer enjoy steak. It has no place in my life. I am leaning towards as meatless eating as possible. The most I purchase is ground turkey, boneless skinless chicken and fresh Italian sausage with fennel seeds. The sausage has no preservatives.
Yes, another lovely discovery on my journey is that I am HIGHLY ALLERGIC to Nitrites/Nitrates and MSG. I have been a label reader for years scrutinizing each ingredient and in which order they are.
SO insane that sugar and salt are added into Everything these days! Another ingredient I have taken note of that is added into nearly everything on the shelves is High Fructose Corn Syrup...
I went & prepared a small salad for myself one night almost a month ago and not 30 minutes later I was in the throes of one of the worst migraines.
I went to the fridge, grabbed the dressing and re read the label of ingredients. As I read one word stood out. Natamycin, Nata mycin NATAMYCIN!
I repeated it a few times before a light bulb went off and I hit the computer researching.
NATAMYCIN:
Natamycin, also known as pimaricin, is a substance produced by the bacterium Streptomyces natalensis. It is naturally occurring and prevents growth of yeasts and molds.
Natamycin is widely used on products such as cheese and sausages. In some countries, natamycin is also used in other products such as juices, wine and yogurt. Natamycin is applied in liquid sprays
and dips or as powder on whole, shredded, and soft cheeses.
Antibiotics are put in more of our foods than I thought....So crazy.
I happen to be Highly allergic to Erythromycin - a macrolide and therefore I am also extremely allergic to Natamycin....
Do yourself a favor. Become a label reader and if you are already reading labels, read them even closer. MSG is disguised as other names.
My body has become incredibly sensitive to so many preservatives now that most of my meals are made fresh. I use Sea Salt and have for a long time. I enjoy fresh fruits and find I cannot get enough of them.
Well, my hands ache terribly although I can at least close them more today than last night. It is only dinner time and I am exhausted. I did get up early though. We dedicated our remodeled kitchen this morning at church and enjoyed our first Fellowship Breakfast in it since the remodeling began:)
The fatigue and pain is worth is.
Have a blessed day friends,
Peace,
Elizabeth
