CNS Research and Fibromyalgia

Those of us with the oh so wonderful diagnosis of FIBROMYALGIA are well aware of the incredibly heightened sensitivities when it comes to experiencing pain. When a friend taps me on the shoulder  these days the pain puts me in tears and I soar through the roof into the outer atmosphere. A hug, something that I thrive on literally causes me near unbearable pain most days.
What is it that is wrong in our systems that causes this heightened sense malfunction? So much research has been done yet no solid evidence has yielded many clues to date.
Most of the discoveries in research points to a malfunction in our CNS - Central Nervous System.
There is a dysfunctional relationship between our CNS and peripheral systems (muscles and connective tissues). Something in the dance between these two systems is stepping out of beat that is believed to cause the symptoms and pain all through our bodies.

Fascinating and Enlightening article in Science Daily on the CNS/Fibromyalgia connection

Fibromyalgia Pain Linked With Central Nervous System Disorder

"Consistent with prior research, the fibromyalgia subjects in the study showed greater sensitivity to auditory tones and reported higher sensitivity to daily sounds. Further, significant associations were observed between the auditory and pressure responses and support the claim that such abnormalities maybe related to a common pathophysiological mechanism. They also noted that fibromyalgia subjects perceived auditory stimuli to be of the same intensity as felt by control subjects, even though their actual intensity levels were lower."
