For many of us who live with FMS our bodies experience pain year round yet there are certain situations, triggers that increase levels and working to identify them can seem like a daunting task however it is worth it in the long haul.
I know for myself, even taking my pain medication as directed there remain certain times of the year pain levels shoot through the roof. "To Infinity and Beyond!" A little Buzz Lightyear humour there. Winter is incredibly rough and the pain is deep within my bones and joints. I feel as though every cell in my body is screaming in agony as it is right now. Cold and damp weather is almost the worst for me personally and I have read it is the way for so many other Fibromites as well. Cold weather is hell enough on my body alone but combine it with rain and I am literally done. TKO first round. winds and rain can exacerbate the pain and other symptoms we have.
The past four years each winter I have been retreating to my room all dressed for the Christmas parade, minus the boots and scarf. My special friend the warm and cozy heating pad joins me, set on low, as does the heating blanket, military gloves, sweats and a few times I've even worn a knit cap, no joking. We do what can we do to help ourselves stay warm. Before you, yes you who are reading this, becomes all excited and anxious with worry about the heating pad in bed...I know and take precautions...I appreciate any and all concerns though...Mom and Nana were career RN's and we (us kids) learned well. Plus I am a pretty smart cookie;)
In Winter I turn into a bear and pretty much hibernate due to monumental pain and almost zero energy. Rain, I loved to walk in the light rain and feel it fall ever softly upon my skin. That is but a lovely memory now and the approach of rain or impending storms are heralded by severe migraines with rise in barometric pressure along with increased pain levels that would cause many a grown man to weep.
Now, I hear my pillow calling....whispering my name and it sounds oh so sweet...
Peace, Love and Light
Elizabeth
